By JH Sayyar
O green-eyed ghost that haunts hearts by night,
You twist the soul with whispers sharp and sly,
You dim the glow of love's once gentle light,
And cloud the stars that shine in friendship’s sky.
With poisoned breath you turn sweet joy to dust,
And make sweet roses of trust begin to fade;
You plant in blooming hearts a thorn of lust,
And mock the peace that honesty once made.
Yet what are you, but do fear in fair disguise
Ah! A wounded pride, a hunger for control
You wear a crown, but truth behind you lies:
No tyrant rules so cruelly you over the soul.
Let envy die where kindness dares to grow,
Love shine clear, unchained by shadowed woe.
