817. Sonnet upon Rehan Mohsin’s Choking Throat

SONNET 817
By JH Sayyar

O Rehan, voice once bold, now bound in pain,
A song restrained within a trembling chest,
The breath that faltered like a silent rain,
Denies thy soul the comfort of its rest
What tale is trapped beneath that strangled cry?
What verses lost where air and word collide?
The throat rebels, yet still your eyes defy
The hush that sorrow’s hand would not abide.
Yet even silence speaks when hearts are true,
And choking throats may birth a deeper art.
The voice be veiled, the flame breaks through,
And burns in silent fury from the heart

So Rehan, rise, though speech may pause or flee,
Hurrah! Thy truth resounds in voiceless poetry.
