45. Ode to BZU Campus

                                 By JH Sayyar

1
O Campus! Hail my pace on the green floor,
After thirty years I have come to visit you,
I see cute faces roam like snails on the shore
Glowing cheeks, goading eyes give me woe,
O Love Tree! Where your shades, we sat here,
Your shades  for wooing without any pause,
Sobs and sighs I hear, but faces in my eyes,
Clear as ruby in water, look me as I wonder,
I sit alone here, unknown to all what cause,
Nothing but time store faces when youth flies

2
Pains and pleasures, I recall my Friend,
Zarin: your talking eyes, short silky hair,
Coming to me but no talk, just eyes’ trend,
I see all busy listening calls, one here, one there,
I am thankful to Campus! You all voices store,
Our laughing, our stalking all day free walk,
With friends, some die, some alive, a pathetic scene,
Show me my old Friends’ where are” I implore,
Some faces dim in eyes, my beloved’s graceful stalk,
Sit under your shade, all my old memories I glean,

3
Unknown faces, in surroundings; all change,
A time miracle, but no change in my mind,
The same sketch thirty years before in range,
Nothing forgets, but why to me you; unkind,
Today’s faces like sunflowers, glowing with rays,
Of cosmetic, books in hands, a hanging purse,
Eyes searching for lovers, but birth wits dark,
Like coal, fearful faces but with self frays,
I am unknown to all, I all the faces curse,
I store memories bitter or sweet in a time-cark
