Ode to Jumeriah Beach
By JH Sayyar
1
I come again among the bikinis and Devas
Playing with your floating hair in airs,
Laughing and dancing faces without pause,
Eyes with eyes, lips with lips, old and new affairs,
The waves erased the foot of Lady’s feet,
But fresh in memory, effaced not by time and space,
Time comes and goes but in memory no change
Same for all times beyond the skies, I greet,
O Beech! Rubbing my Lady’s prints and grace
I cannot on your sand; a new love meeting arrange
2
She leaves me, heart bleeds and trembling feet
Eyes survey her face but none like my Lady,
Cuter faces I see there, smiling eyes deceit,
New comers sit; eyes under trees, shady,
Beech birds happy, fly over the waves I sad,
A swan unlocks her locked throat near death,
She says goodbye; goes to a new state,
Sphinx turns into ash for a new birth; glad,
Flaps her wings pondering over her new birth
Sphinx lives single throughout life without a mate,
3
Jumeirah Beech I will never see you again,
Reaching here I recall my Lady’s foot marks,
Her laughing and kissing with me on the main,
Heart weeps; you kindle my love sparks,
My past full of love, present full of woe,
My Swan not with me, went to other shore,
In search of a new love in a new love vale,
With a new mate met in the dream for bill and coo,
Leaves me in sorrows and suffering more,
Weeping all night; it makes my face; pale
