Ode to a Thai Belle
By JH Sayyar
1
O Thai Belle; stands alone, watching the sky,
Spreads hair on the breasts, wears a bikini garb,
Calls for friend, your voice like a koel’s cry,
Cute your face, your colored diamond barb
Near you swimming swans, flying larks,
Playing ducks on waves on the beach soil,
Falling rain, like my heart bleeds on shore,
I watch your dance, eyes releasing love sparks
Blank eyes roam; but lonesome hails,
My heart weeps looking at it more and more
2
O Belle, come not, old men enjoy
leisure,
Your dress and cheeks, old men’s heart tease,
Old men recall past days full of pleasure,
Watching your beauty; emotions appease,
Their sad hearts all pleasures destroy,
Blood falls from the eyes: Do Ruminate,
Old men’s pleasures end watching you again,
They reach in the age of youth, where joys,
Unknown to pain, on sand creeping snails,
Work day and night like with an active brain
Youth: old age dress, now Time batters,
No change, skin; full of wrinkled shroud,
A man in a new dress, of age new matters,
crooked gait, trembling hands like a scarecrow,
Youth: the slave of passions, old age; greed,
Increasing wishes, feeble steps; lonesome bites
Air throwing mouth, on face sunken balls,
Sullen cheeks, a wrinkled forehead, None to feed,
A burden of issues, free of all human rights,
Bit by bit, youth crawls to old age, as a kid crawls
