Ode to Faithfulness
By JH Sayyar
1
I find you not in men’s and women’s heart,
Where have you been? People search for
you,
Neither you in brothel, nor in women’s love cart?
Being deceived in search of you, who are true?
What is darkness? Nothing; light absence shows,
Where there is no light, there darkness prevails,
Then all colors fade, wits fail, none can recognize
Men and women, friends and foes but wails
Feet; bleeding, no difference in thorns and rose,
Men cannot see; wisdom light comes and goes,
All in a lake of ignorance and everywhere cries
2
Faithfulness; a light, hellish wrath is gloom,
Disloyalty; an illicit child of ignorance
Ah! Greed; the cause of wisdom doom
No difference in right and wrong; failing sense
Faithfulness; a soul essence; disloyalty chary,
Creeps into lovers’ heart, like a snake in a hole,
As greed enters into eyes; on the heart sits.
At the belly button, none knows it goal,
Shutting wisdom; opens greed; you wary,
Greed rules wisdom kingdom; greed will tarry.
Slowly and slowly senses fail and our wits
3
I find loyalty, stop your hide and seek,
Living in beasts and birds, in all cannibals,
O Loyalty! You unseen, visible for the meek,
I leave hearts, no peace, ringing greed bells,
I live in children’s and babies’ chest,
In mothers’ hearts, left; the heart of a whore,
My constant stay in the heart of a horse and a dog
People find me in beauty, they are foolish more
Their eyes, tongues and hearts create unrest
All day and night live among the beauty pest,
Now I live not among the belles traitors like a fog
