Ode to Phoenix
By JH Sayyar
1
Phoenix: a child of the sun since its creation,
Shimmering your feathers, golden look,
Between you and sun; a strong relation,
Your life has; no end;, God writes in life book,
Looking at the beauty, the child prays for you,
“You will live forever on earth.” my adopted son,
I shall sing a song for you alone.” In vales
Feeling tired, will fly to the sun rising place, woe
Not for Phoenix, always young; its yearn
“Sun, glorious sun, make me young:
And strong again.” Old age prevails
2
Ignored his voice, he flew to his birth place,
Crossing seas, collecting gum and cinnamon,
To lay a golden egg and sings on the palm face
“Sun, glorious sun, make me young:
And strong again.” In fine tone
The sun heard, a flame reaches in the nest,
From the Phoenix ash; a new phoenix comes out,
Flapping its wings flies to cinnamon barks,
After this reaches in the desert to take rest,
Sings; “I shall sing a song for you alone.” Does shout
Then leaves the palm next crossing larks,
3
O Phoenix, you have fed up with me!
You have a next, but where shall I dwell?
You live on a palm tree; I am in great worry,
Looking at me sufferings, all earth is hell,
The sun hears me, my Lady listen to me not
She turns face, throws my poor hands away
You sing for the sun, I sing my Lady’s praise,
It seems, a doubt-which hatches a lurking plot,
You cross high hills, but over not my sway,
She looks at me with anger; sends anger rays
