716. O Lady of the stars and eagle’s flight,

SONNET 716
By JH Sayyar

O Lady of the stars and eagle’s flight,
Whose voice is strength, melody refined
Within thy eyes, dawn breaks the light,
A dream of liberty in soul and mind
Thy steps, like rivers, shape the land,
With grace walks through summer’s flare,
In every deed, both tender heart and hand,
Uplift the weary with a fearless care.
From sea to shining sea thy spirit calls,
A beacon lit where justice dares to gleam,
No tower too high, no tyrant ever stalls
The march you lead through a holy dream.

O woman bold, in thee a nation shows—
How strength with beauty in one spirit grows.
