290. Who are you, O Stranger? You not

SONNET 290

By JH Sayyar
Who are you, O Stranger? You not
Calls me “My Love,” the coolest air
Ah! Gleeful waves happy and full hot,
Who calls me? In lone standing there,
I think Jessica’s voice was calling me,
When I turn my face there was none
Near me happy waves; free of worry,
I know not O Lady why you me shun,
Ah! Come to console mournful mind,
Crying like a babe alone at the bank,
Come, you merciful and more kind,
If you come, I shall give you thank.

Waves and flowers were happy there,
I was sad, though the weather was fair.
