256. Hope like a bird sits on a branch,

SONNET 356

By JH Sayyar
Hope like a bird sits on a branch,
Sings song for disappointed nuts,
Ready for a new quest to launch
Some live in palaces, some in huts,
A good hope, never, never leaves,
Like a shadow walks with the soul,
Cruel time makes holes like sieves,
Hope candle burns like beauty mole,
Eyes full of tears; a causeless pain,
Woes bow down my mighty lumber,
My courage fails, I turn into grain,
I see moon from the land of Cumber,

Hope does link all sad men to pod,
Lives in hearts; never dies like toad
