SONNET 747 By JH Sayyar A smile, that dawns like light upon the face, Breaks shadows cast by sorrow's silent art, It gilds the world with unexpected grace, And weaves warmth within the coldest heart No trumpet sounds, no herald cries its birth, Yet kingdoms yield to such a soft command; It lifts the low, brings heaven down to earth, And writes sweet peace upon a troubled land It speaks of joy that words could never frame, Of secrets kept in eyes that brightly gleam, It kindles love, ignites affection's flame, And does linger like the echo of a dream.
O gentle smile, thou art a God’s gift divine A silent poem writ on thy lips like mine
