743. The mind, a lantern lit with reason's flame,

SONNET 743
By JH Sayyar

The mind, a lantern lit with reason's flame,
Discerns the paths where logic dares to tread;
It charts the stars, assigns each thought a name,
And binds the chaos dancing in our head
The heart, meanwhile, is wild and undefined,
A compass drawn by tides of love and pain;
It speaks in pulses, but silent yet aligned
With dreams no rule or number can contain.
Oft do they war, these masters of our soul—
The mind demands restraint, the heart release;
One seeks the summit, one the meadow's stroll,
One longs for truth, the other, only peace.

Yet when they walk as one, not torn apart,
The world is seen with wisdom lit by heart.
