739. O Truth, thou shining flame no lie can shade,

SONNET 739
By JH Sayyar

O Truth, thou shining flame no lie can shade,
Thy voice, though oft ignored, still speaks in light;
Through tempests tossed, thy banner is not swayed,
But stands unmoved in darkest depth of night
No gilded tongue can forge thy sacred name,
Nor power's gold corrupt thy stainless core;
Though martyrs bleed and liars earn their fame,
Thy silent step walks ever on ever before.
The eyes that seek thee must be brave and clear,
For falsehood weaves a veil of sweet deceit;
Yet in thy face, though stern, no soul shall fear,
But find a peace unshaken and complete.

O timeless Truth, thy justice shall prevail,
Though all the winds of treachery assail
