By JH Sayyar
O fair Columbia's child, with eyes so bright,
Your laughter once outshone the western skies,
But now the stars that danced in endless night
Fall dim beneath your soft, unanswered cries.
He held your hand beneath the cherry trees,
Whispered dreams like songs upon the breeze;
Yet now, alone, you walk the autumn leaves,
A heart grown cold from promises that tease
Your smile once lit the boardwalks of the shore,
Where moonlight danced on lovers' silver vows
But silence dwells where love resounds no more,
And time has furrowed youth upon your brows.
Yet still you stand, though love has slipped away—
A flame unquenched in freedom’s bold array.
