1005. I am old, but feel young in dreams by night

SONNET 1005
By JH Sayyar

I am old, but feel young in dreams by night,
Where time dissolves beneath the moon
My soul takes flight on wings of morning light,
And dances free to youth’s forgotten tune.
Though limbs are slow, hair touched with snow,
Within the mind, no wrinkle dares to stay.
A child once more, through secret fields I go,
Where laughter blooms and sorrow fades away
The world asleep, my spirit breaks its chain,
Drinks from wells no waking hours can find.
No ache, no age, no trace of earthly pain
Just winds of wonder whispering in the mind.

So cruel Time let the clock, its weary tale, recite
I live again in dreams, youth is mine each night.
