946. Sonnet: August the Fifth – Break Every Lock

SONNET 946
By JH Sayyar

On August fifth, let chains of silence break,
No iron bar can bind the bare truth for long.
The people's voice begins the earth to shake,
Their muffled cries rise in thunder strong.
O jailer, fear the justice you do restrain,
Behind the cold bars a lion waits to roar.
The nation bears the weight of silent pain,
But justice knocks upon the bolted door.
Unlock the truth! Let blinded courts see,
Let not the law is bent by power's hand.
For he who stood for hope and liberty
Deserves the right to walk a freeborn land

So rise, O hearts, and lift the flag again—
On August fifth, break every cursed chain.
