944. Sonnet: For Rights, Unite the Peoples of Pakistan

SONNET 944
By JH Sayyar

O sons of Indus, rise with heart and hand,
Let brotherhood outshine the tribal flame,
No throne, no tyrant, shall this will withstand—
The people's voice is louder than their name.
From mountains to burning southern shore,
Let every tongue declare the truth as one;
So chains divide, we shall be slaves no more
The night must break before the morning sun.
For rights we march, with justice as our guide,
Beyond the walls of fear and sect and creed;
The flag shall wave where the weak would hide,
And bloom the roses of unity from tiny seed.

O Peoples of Pakistan, awake from bitter sleep
Your people rise, their dreams no longer cheap.
