809. O Lady Justice, blind, once firm and proud,

SONNET 809
By JH Sayyar

O Lady Justice, blind, once firm and proud,
Now veils her face in shame beneath the law;
Her sword lies rusted, broken, disavowed,
While tyrants twist the truth without a flaw
The gavel echoes lies, not honest might,
And robes of black serve crowns of fear.
The poor seek dawn but find eternal night,
Their cries dismiss pleas none choose to hear.
In marble halls, corruption reigns as king,
Where verdicts dance to power's cruel tune;
No dove of peace, no hopeful voice to sing
Just silence crushed beneath a dark monsoon.

Yet still we hope: from ashes, phoenix flies
May justice rise anew, and cleanse the skies.
