By JH Sayyar
Let us drink, my love beneath stars so wide,
With wine that steals sorrow from our bones,
Forget the ticking world and time's harsh tide,
And turn our hearts to laughter, not to stones.
The night is dark and soft, her lips a lullaby,
She bids us pour the hours into love flame,
No need to ask the where, the when, or why
Feel the hush knows neither guilt nor shame.
Then come, lie close, the wine on our breath,
Let silence be the song our bodies do keep,
For love is richest not in life nor death,
But in the gentle drift from drink to sleep.
The cup is full; the bed is warm and deep
Let’s drink together now and then let sleep.
